Converting a whole folder of HEIC photos
Copying photos from an iPhone to a PC often leaves you with hundreds of .heic files. Opening them one by one in a converter is painful, so this page is built for batches: add them all, choose a format once, and download one ZIP.
- Copy the HEIC photos from your iPhone to a folder on your computer, or open the photo library in your phone’s browser.
- Click Select files, open the folder and press Ctrl+A (⌘+A on Mac) to select everything. You can also drag the selected files onto the box.
- Choose the output format, quality and optional Max size. These settings apply to the whole batch.
- Press Convert all. Each file shows its own status.
- Use Download all (ZIP) to save everything in one archive.
How batch conversion works here
- A queue, not a stampede. Photos are converted one after another. Decoding a 12–48 megapixel photo uses a lot of memory, and a queue keeps your browser responsive.
- Errors are isolated. If one file cannot be converted, it is marked and the rest carry on.
- Duplicate names are handled. In the ZIP, a second file with the same name gets (2) added, so nothing is overwritten.
- Nothing is uploaded. The whole queue runs on your device.
How big a batch is sensible?
There is no limit built into the page – your device’s memory is the limit. These are rules of thumb rather than hard numbers:
| Device | Comfortable batch | If it struggles |
|---|---|---|
| Recent laptop or desktop | Hundreds of photos | Convert in groups of 100–200 and download a ZIP for each. |
| Older computer | Tens of photos | Set Max size to 2048 px and convert in smaller groups. |
| Phone or tablet | 20–50 photos | Keep the screen on, use a Max size, and avoid PNG for large batches. |
Tips for large batches
- Set a Max size of 2048 px if you do not need full resolution – it speeds up encoding and shrinks the ZIP.
- Close other heavy tabs before you start.
- Prefer JPG for big batches: PNG output is much larger and slower to zip.
- After downloading, compare the number of files in the ZIP with the number you added.
- Keep the original HEIC files until you have checked the results.
Avoid the problem next time
On your iPhone, Settings > Photos > Transfer to Mac or PC lets you choose Automatic, which converts photos to a compatible format when they are copied to a computer, or Keep Originals. See how to stop your iPhone taking HEIC photos for details.
Format comparison
How the output formats differ, so you can pick the right one.

| PNG | Lossless | Yes | Universal | Editing batches (large files) |
| WebP | Lossy | Yes | Modern browsers | Website image batches |

Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about HEIC files, privacy and conversion.
How many HEIC photos can I convert at once?
HEIC2 does not limit the number. Your device’s memory is the real limit: a laptop or desktop can handle large batches, while a phone is happier with 20–50 photos at a time. If a tab slows down or reloads, convert fewer photos per batch.
Are photos converted in parallel?
One after another. Converting a photo needs a lot of memory, so a queue keeps your browser stable. Each file shows its own status, and one failing file does not stop the rest.
How do I select a whole folder?
Click Select files, open the folder, press Ctrl+A (⌘+A on Mac) to select everything and confirm. You can also drag a group of selected files into the box.
How do I download all the converted photos?
Use the Download all (ZIP) button. The ZIP contains every converted file. If two photos have the same name, the second is saved with (2) added so nothing is overwritten.
Can I combine a batch into one PDF?
Yes. Choose PDF as the format and switch on Combine all photos into one PDF. Pages follow the order of the list.
How can I make a big batch faster?
Set a Max size such as 2048 px. Smaller photos encode faster and produce smaller downloads. Close other heavy tabs, and on a phone keep the screen awake while the batch runs.
