Why convert HEIC to JPG?
JPG has been the default photo format for three decades, so almost everything can open it. HEIC is newer and more efficient, but support outside Apple’s ecosystem is patchy. Converting to JPG is the quickest way to make a photo work everywhere.

How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Drag your .heic or .heif files into the box above, or tap Select files.

What changes when HEIC becomes JPG
- File size usually grows. HEIC compresses more efficiently, so a JPG of similar visual quality tends to be larger.
- Colour depth is limited to 8 bits per channel, which is what JPG supports.
- Metadata is not carried over. Camera details and GPS location are dropped in the converted file.
- Live Photo motion and depth data are not included. You get the still image.
- It is a one-way trip. Keep the original HEIC if you may want the full-fidelity version later.

Want your iPhone to save JPG in the first place?
Go to Settings > Camera > Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPEG. The trade-off is larger files, so you will use more storage. How do I convert HEIC to JPG without installing software?

What quality setting should I use for JPG?
The default of 92% is a good balance for everyday use. Use 85% for email and messaging, and 100% only if you plan to edit the file further – it makes the file much larger for little visible gain.
Will the JPG be bigger than the HEIC?
Usually yes. HEIC is more efficient than JPG, so a JPG of similar visual quality is typically noticeably larger. Lower the quality slightly or set a maximum size if file size matters.
Is JPG the same as JPEG?
Yes. JPG and JPEG are the same format; the three-letter extension comes from older systems that limited extensions to three characters. This tool saves files with the .jpg extension, which every app accepts.
Can I make my iPhone save JPG instead of HEIC?
Yes. Open Settings > Camera > Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPEG. Photos you already took stay as HEIC, so you can still convert them here.
Do I need to convert photos before sending them to someone?
Often not. When you share a photo from your iPhone through many apps, iOS can send a compatible version automatically. Conversion matters most when you copy the original files to a computer or upload them to a website that rejects HEIC.
